ISSUE #16 FEBRUARY 2009

Kirby's Korner

Valentines Day at Dioji

You’re showered with love, every day of the year;

By your furry ole pal, who is always near.

Always greeted with excitement, a wag and a smooch;

Oh how you love, that silly ole pooch!

The 14th is coming, the day to celebrate love;

So give your pup a gift, sent from above.

A fantastic day of play, with all the Dioji pals;

Romping and running, with joyous howls!

We’ll tucker ‘em out, with a day of delight;

And you will be free, to enjoy your night!

Proposed Veterinary Sales Tax to help CA Budget

A recent proposal by Governor Schwarzenegger has many California dog owners talking and we wanted to be sure our newsletter subscribers were aware of the issue. With California facing a huge budget gap, one proposal to bring in new revenue is to tax select services (veterinary care appliance & furniture repair, vehicle repair and golf). Should the proposed 9-10% sales tax pass, it’s expected to generate a tax revenue of $357 million over the next two years.

Some of the main concerns/points published in recent articles are:

  • Veterinary medical care shouldn’t be taxed any differently than human medical care
  • In this weak economy, animal owners are already making tough choices. Adding 9-10% to already expensive vet visits will force owners to make difficult choices about the health and welfare of their pets
  • If people can’t afford to take care of their pets, they may be forced to abandon them to shelters, adding to the overcrowding and financial strain
  • Increased risk to public health & safety when essential Veterinary care to protect diseases such as Rabies are no longer given

If you feel strongly either for or against this proposal, you can call the governor’s office at 916-445-2841. Press 5 to leave your opinion on a current issue and then press 1 to select the issues of sales tax on veterinary services.

Barkimonial

My name is Buster and I have been a member of Dioji for a full year, now. Whenever I hear the word Dioji, I perk my ears in disbelief: I get to go again!! Then I jump for joy and race to the car. As we pull into the driveway, I am often seen standing on the car console, nose to the windshield, willing the car to get there faster. While running to the door to get to Playland, everyone welcomes me and greets me by name. I have enjoyed some great sleepovers and have even done some of my own shopping at the wonderful boutique (I just loved the squeaky caterpillar). I am lucky enough to be able to run, chase, wrestle, and just play every day to burn off my energy (or most of it - without Dioji, my owners and I can't imagine how I'd ever begin to get tired!). With the help of my canine and human friends here at Dioji I have learned to play catch, swim (with a vest), tug-of-war, and, well - just say Bubbles and watch out!

Email info@dioji.com if you have a barkimonial you would like to share.
